Archery at Loch Tay

Here at Loch Tay Highland Lodges, we invite you to take part in an ancient and elegant sport, archery!

Whether you want to imagine you are a Scottish hero or heroine (like Brave's Merida) or simply to have a go at shooting an arrow, we offer you the chance to take part in this historic and exciting sport at Loch Tay Highland Lodges!

Learn the skills of archery under the close supervision and personalised tuition of our experienced instructors.

We have some of the best archery equipment in the country, ensuring you can learn archery under the best conditions and truly revel in the glory of hitting that first bullseye!

Archery takes place in the grounds of our park in our purpose built archery site. You'll be surrounded by trees and nature, an ideal environment in which to learn archery.

Have you always wanted to try archery? Now there's nothing to stop you. Archery is great fun and all our sessions are fully supervised by our instructors.

Canoeing on Loch Tay

Join us on a journey of discover...

Loch Tay and its connecting rivers, Lochay and Tay, provide smooth flowing waters making for tranquil canoe trips with ample picnic beaches and vibrant scenery to discover.

Explore some of Scotland's rich cultural and natural heritage by water! Witness the remains of ancient communities along the Loch side and see mysterious ancient stone circles and standing stones.

Our guided Canadian canoe trips are a fantastic way to take in the scenery around Loch Tay and Killin. Imagine paddling around stunning Loch Tay, then progressing through some of Scotland’s most beautiful gently flowing rivers surrounded by the mountains, trees and vistas of the Trossachs and lower highlands.

Canoe Hire: If you would rather explore the loch and rivers at your own pace, we have a selection of Canadian canoes available for hire.

If you're interested in other water sports, we also offer sailing and kayaking at Loch Tay.

Downhill Cycle Trips at Loch Tay

Gravity Assisted Downhill Cycle Trips are incredibly exhilarating, and a great way to experience the lush highland hills, scenery and countryside around Loch Tay.

Loch Tay Highland Lodges is pleased to offer this exciting activity to our visitors. Gravity Assisted Downhill Cycling is fun for the whole family. The only skill you need is the ability to ride a bicycle!

Our downhill cycle trips are thrilling and “easy peasy” whether you’re 8 or 80 (just ask our 80 year old cycler, Gerry Law)!

Here at Loch Tay Highland Lodges we have a fleet of high tech mountain bikes available for hire for both downhill trips and mountain biking adventures. Our fleet includes a range of bikes to suit all ages.

How do our Gravity Assisted Cycle Trips work?

It’s very simple: We take you and your bike to the top of the hill.

You cycle and let gravity aid your journey down…

…and we pick you up at the bottom!

Wildlife & Walking Holidays

Wildlife watching at Loch Tay is one of the highlights of this area.

While staying with us you could catch sight of red squirrels, pine martens, and black grouse or even spot a Roe Deer or stag roaming by. Our property and surrounding hills are teaming with Scottish wildlife.

There is also an abundance and variety of flora and fauna such as bluebells, thistles, heather and beautiful, colourful alpine flowers, not to mention the incredible rolling green hills perfect for walks.

Walking around Loch Tay

One of the best ways to see the animals and plant life of Loch Tay is to get out and explore the landscape on foot or on a mountain bike.

Trails of varying difficulties stretch around the loch as well as up into the surrounding hills from the easy Ben Lawers nature trail to the more testing climb of Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas. There are also walking trails around the local townships including: Pitlochry, Killin and Kenmore. For more experienced hikers, longer and more intense hiking routes wind up into the hills and mountains.

The walking trails around Loch Tay offer incredible scenic views of the loch and town, and all offer a chance to see local wildlife, plants and flowers up close. If you’d like to see even more wildlife, you may be interested in visiting one of the local wildlife parks or stopping by the Ben Lawers Visitor Centre for insight into local nature conversation and restoration efforts.

Kayaking at Loch Tay

Loch Tay offers many exciting outdoor adventures in and around its shores. Here at Loch Tay Highland Lodges, we offer you the chance to hire kayaks or to learn kayaking alongside one of our experienced instructors.

Travelling by boat is an ideal way to take in the Loch's gorgeous soundings, from ruins of ancient villages and communities to stone circles and standing stones, these gentle waters make for a great paddle journey.

At Loch Tay Highland Lodges, our experienced instructors provide a fantastic introduction to Kayaking. Come take part in one of our Kayak fun sessions and learn valuable new skills!

If you've already mastered kayaking and you'd like to set out on your own, we also offer kayaks for hire.

Mountain Biking at Loch Tay

Lush green rolling hills, moorlands, trees and phenomenal countryside make mountain biking at Loch Tay an exciting and unforgettable experience.

When you stay with us at Loch Tay Highland Lodges, you are right on the doorstep to a diverse collection of on and off road cycling opportunities. Nearby there are trails around the loch, Glen Lyon, and Drummond Hill with opportunities to explore a variety of cycle paths of varying difficulty, all with spectacular views of Kenmore and the surrounding gorgeous highland area.

At Loch Tay, we have a fleet of high adult tech mountain bikes available for hire. We also offer Gravity Assisted Downhill Cycle Trips! We also have a full range of children's bikes to suit all ages!

Ride through some of Scotland’s most spectacular hills, landscape and scenery!

We also offer motorcycle and quad biking opportunities for those interested in trying a different type of biking experience at Loch Tay.

Motorsport in Scotland

Loch Tay and the highlands is an ideal destination for Scottish motorsport: motorcycle trips and car touring. Harley Davidson, BMW and classic car clubs visit us regularly. Everyone is welcome!

Loch Tay offers beautiful contrasts that make for ideal motorbike and car trips, from rugged mountains and hills to spacious wilderness and exhilarating loch side roads. The lower highlands make for some spectacular country drives or rides.

Sailing on Loch Tay

Many who come to stand on the shores of beautiful Loch Tay experience a sense of wonder and awe that is matched by only a few other places on earth. At the gateway to the highlands, Loch Tay is breathtaking and what better way to enjoy the loch than to spend time sailing over it and across it on one of our boats?

Whether you are an experienced sailor or just starting out, Loch Tay Highland Lodges gives you the opportunity to set sail on the loch. We have a fleet of Soling keelboats and Wayfarer Dinghies available for hire.

We also offer sailing RYA sailing courses for those just starting out or who want to improve their skills.

We can offer excellent facilities for guests who wish to bring their own horse on holiday - either individuals or riding clubs. We have a large outdoor all weather arena, hill-track for trekking and hacking and we can offer stabling or grass livery - for a weekend or full weeks. This also applies to local horse owners who may want to bring their horse here for DIY livery either stabled or at grass all year round.

Whisky Tours around Loch Tay

Spirit Yule Tour!

Scotland is home to some of the world's most loved whiskies. Here at Loch Tay, nearby distilleries make for a real treat for whisky fans and those simply curious about the distillery process and tradition.

We invite you to come take part in our exclusive chauffeur drive around some of the local area's best distilleries.

Our Whisky tour will take you on a round trip that includes the Dalwhinnie distillery and Glenturret (Scotland's oldest distillery) situated near Crieff. Enjoy a rare wee malt at Erdradour, Scotland's smallest distillery, then finish up the tour at the Dewar's visitor centre and distillery in Aberfeldy.

You'll have the opportunity to enjoy a dram at each distillery and gain a true appreciation for the art of making, and tasting, great whisky.
